Great Plains Health Demonstration with students in medical attire

Children can have wild imaginations; however, if your third grader has told you they scrubbed up, navigated a disorienting obstacle course, or even took a robot’s vital signs, they are not stretching the truth. North Platte Public Schools third graders get the opportunity to learn with Great Plains Health representatives in their elementary schools! Students are divided into groups, and rotate through stations where they learn about bones in our skeleton, see how much dirt and germs we come into contact with, learn how to check reflexes and vital signs, experience what it’s like to move with a disability, and even how helmets prevent brain injury. Students and teachers enjoy the group discussions and hands-on activities.

Experiences like these are made possible through the efforts of NPPS Teaching and Learning, and the generosity of Great Plains Health. This was an excellent way for students to be engaged with science, and get an introduction to health professions.
